I am also having the error Happened randomly and I have also tried everything I know of to get things reinstalled. Follwoed every troubleshooting guide available. My pc had this wierd thing happen the night before I got the error were suddenely my keyboard and mouse as well as everything else usb suddenly stopped working. I moved ports around and eventuallly the keyboard and mouse lite back up, but the vive headset hasn't since. I don't know if it is just strange timing and my download htc vive drivers just died or if it is connected.

I saw that you already did part of this but it's important to download htc vive drivers the steps right: Start SteamVR without the link box plugged in and don't plug it in againopen the settings screen, find the thing that says "uninstall all drivers" or similarreboot. It sounds like they are actually going to try download htc vive drivers fix it instead of just replacing it. Which is what I was lead to beleive in later emails but that is fine with me --My next solution is to use a dremel tool and cut down the sides of the link box and open it like a clam shell, because i cant find any screws to take out, and resolder the DCIN port connecter to the board thats in there because im pretty sure that is all it really needs.
